Palm Springs is a beautiful place to get married. If you want your desert wedding photos to have a unique twist, check out the Palm Springs windmills. I met up with Amanda and David at the windmills for a windswept session that would be great inspiration for romantic wedding portraits.
I first connected with David and Amanda on Instagram. They travel the country full-time in an RV. I could tell that they were adventurous, so I asked if they’d want to do this unique photo session while they were in Palm Springs. The desert wedding inspiration that we created did not disappoint.
To call this session “windswept” might be a bit of an understatement. The wind was so powerful that Amanda’s dress whipped around her legs. Luckily, she relaxed and rolled with it. As a result, we got photos that manage to be both classically romantic and unexpected.
The windmills are definitely a unique location for desert wedding photos. Even though they’re only twenty minutes from Palm Springs, they feel like they’re in the middle of nowhere. You get stunning views of the mountains and windmills, which are iconic parts of the region’s landscape. It’s hard to overstate how giant the windmills feel in person. They bring a dramatic, modern feeling to otherwise rugged desert wedding photos.
If you’re considering doing desert wedding photos by the Palm Springs windmills, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, the wind will be stronger than you expect. Be ready to embrace the untamed look of your hair flying everywhere. Second, know that it will be very sunny with little shade. Work with your photographer to strategize the best time to take those carefree photos.
